Void & The Flame
Privacy Policy
Last updated July 3, 2026
We are committed to protecting and respecting your privacy in connection with your use of Lumis (“the App”). This policy explains, in plain terms, what information we collect, why we collect it, how it is used and shared, how long we keep it, and the choices available to you. By using the App you agree to the practices described here.
Information we collect
We collect only what we need to provide the App. This includes the account information you provide when you sign up (such as your email address and name, including through Sign in with Apple); the content you create in the App, such as journal entries, reflections, and conversation text; subscription and purchase status; and limited technical, usage, and diagnostic information that helps us keep the App reliable and secure. We do not knowingly collect more than is necessary.
How we use your information
We use your information to operate and provide the App, to generate the reflective and philosophical responses you ask for, to process and maintain your subscription, to keep the service secure and functioning, to respond to you, and to understand and improve how the App is used. We do not use your private journal or conversation content for advertising.
AI features and Anthropic
Lumis uses artificial intelligence to generate reflections and guidance, and it is labeled as AI wherever it speaks. The AI provider is Anthropic, the maker of Claude. Before you use a feature powered by AI, we tell you that you are interacting with AI and give you a choice.
Mentor access to your journal entries is a consent you grant in the app and can revoke in the app at any time; when it is revoked, your entries are no longer sent for a response. When a mentor does answer, the text you submit, and your recent conversations sent as context so the mentor can follow your thread, are processed by Anthropic to generate the response. Your entries and conversations are never used to train AI models, by us or by Anthropic, whose commercial API terms prohibit training on your data. You can delete your account, entries, and conversations from inside the app. AI responses are for educational and reflective purposes only and are not a substitute for professional advice. Please avoid entering information you would not want a third party to process.
The Ask Marcus tool on this website
This website offers a free Ask Marcus tool that answers a question without an account. Your question is sent to Anthropic to generate the answer, and is processed only to answer you. It is not stored alongside your email address, and in fact the question itself is not stored at all. The only record the tool keeps is a daily rate-limit counter, tied to your IP address and the date, so a single visitor cannot exhaust the free daily allowance. Your question is never used to train AI. Please avoid entering sensitive personal information into the tool.
Analytics and the waitlist on this website
This website uses PostHog for privacy-conscious product analytics: which pages and sections are viewed, when a call-to-action is used, and when the Ask Marcus tool is submitted. Ask Marcus analytics record only that a question was asked and a coarse length band; they never include the text of your question. If you join the waitlist, your email address is stored in our database (Supabase), together with which page and referral source it came from, and is used only to contact you about Lumis. Every message includes a one-tap unsubscribe, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
How we share your information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only with trusted service providers who help us run the App — such as cloud hosting and database providers, the AI provider that generates responses, our payment and subscription processor, and privacy-conscious analytics and diagnostics tools. These providers may access your information only to perform tasks on our behalf and are obligated to protect it. We may also disclose information where required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the App.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as needed to provide the App to you and for as long as legally permitted. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify the personal information we hold about you, except where we are required to retain it for legal, security, or legitimate-business reasons. Content already processed by a third-party provider is subject to that provider’s own retention and deletion practices.
Your choices and rights
You can access, correct, or delete your information. You may delete your account and its associated content at any time from within the App settings, and you may opt out of non-essential messages from us. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal information; to exercise them, contact us at hello@lumis.quest. Your rights are not absolute, and some exceptions may apply.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your information and to address issues responsibly if they arise.
Children’s privacy
Lumis is not directed to children. You must meet the minimum age required in your region to use the App, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children below that age. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
International users
We and our service providers may process and store information in countries other than your own. Where we do, we take steps intended to ensure your information receives an appropriate level of protection.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above, and where appropriate we will let you know within the App. Continued use of the App after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
